Fiske Fest in Boulder, August 2016

Fiske Fest in Boulder, August 2016

Each time I step up in front of the technology I’ve created and take electronic brush in hand, I embark on opening new worlds and new discoveries. I invite you to join me on my next adventure! I’ll be back at the amazing Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado, Boulder for the finale party of […]

Fort Collins, July 8

Fort Collins, July 8

I’m taking my show to Colorado at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, on July 8. I plan to surround us all with improvised creations that linger, hover, waver, dance, and vanish. Join me in this beautiful theater! Two shows, at 7pm and 9pm. (Update: Information about the event was here, but the the info […]

Origami Mind

Origami Mind

This week, I’ve been exploring symmetries and folding. I’ve implemented a technique for folding images back on themselves in an organic way. I was going to create a quick abstract video which uses this technique, but this piece unfolded and evolved instead. I developed the graphics and music over the past few days, going back and forth with […]

Bubble Trees

Bubble Trees

I drew these variations one night, looking for a good T-shirt design. I’m calling them “Bubble Trees” for now. What do you think they should be called?

Netherlands, 2014

Live immersive 3D performances in Groningen, Netherlands! I’m revving up for a multi-day event in 3D at the futuristic new planetarium in Groningen, Netherlands! I’ll be giving a series of performances between August 21 and 31. This is a brand new 3D theater that just opened in June. I plan to make my shows morph from one […]

More Branching Fractal Sketches

More Branching Fractal Sketches

Another nights exploration produced these images (August 26, 2013). The objects are each members of a class of branching fractals generated from a single stroke of my pen and recursively drawn. The exploration takes place in my real-time system where I draw the initial stroke, tweak the parameters, and take a snapshot of the result.

Fractal Jade Marbles

Fractal Jade Marbles

My night’s exploration of fractal patterns revealed a similarity between 2D Julia-style fractals and carved lapidary stones. A cut stone reveals a 3D volume in much the same way that a Julia set rendering reveals a 2D slice of a 4D configuration. I created these images on September 2, 2013 with my animation performance system, […]

Branching Fractal Sketches

Branching Fractal Sketches

I made these one evening in my studio in 2007. They are studies on the expressiveness of branching fractals. Each “twig” is a duplicate of the larger branch that it spouts from. I created each image by drawing a freehand shape, then selecting a branching pattern and adjusting parameters, the number of nodes, and the […]

Amsterdam Museumnacht 2011

Amsterdam Museumnacht 2011

Amsterdam’s Museumnacht is the annual city-wide open house party, when thousands of visitors experience the venerable institutions through the night. I’m honored to be part of this event, being featured at the Artis Planetarium on the night of November 5. This is a beautiful digital planetarium in the center of the city, a great place […]

Warsaw, Poland Performances

Warsaw, Poland Performances

On May 27, 2011, I will be performing virtual reality in Warsaw, Poland at the new planetarium in the Copernicus Science Centre. The facility looks amazing. It’s a brand-new stereoscopic 3D planetarium designed and installed by Sky-Skan. I will be doing 3 performances as part of the ECSITE conference. I have not performed in Europe […]
